quick poetry update

i sent Eric Dejaeger, the bloke in Belgium who translated 18 of my poems into French, a copy of my 12 Gauge Press chapbook, The Magnificent Seven, and some broadsides as thanks for being so kind as to translate the poems and submit them to French-language journals. well, i just received word that Eric found three more poems that he wanted to translate (the last three in The Magnificent Seven chapbook). he sent me the new translations, and it's still a hoot to see my words in French.

anyway, nothing more going on other than that.

oh, wait. we're having issues with our mail delivery, suddenly. apparently, our mailman is rejecting mail that is properly address and sending it back as undeliverable. we called the post office and they said everything is copacetic, but they'll talk to our mailman to make sure nothing is amiss. whatever. he'll probably throw everything away, now. or contract some deadly disease so that he could cough on it, or bleed on it, or something just to spread the contagion to us. if i come down with some exotic, rare disease like Tay-Sachs or SIDS or Tourette's, we'll know who's to blame.

justin! That is too cool. I bet it is really a good feeling to see your stuff in French. Congratulations! That's great!

Please don't get me started on mailmen. I'll just take up a lot of space in your blog and it will be ranting that doesn't make sense. :)

Kat-
thanks for the kind words. it really is a kick to see the poems in French.
as for the postal service. there will be no more mention of it. ;)

casey-
yes, Tourette's is genetic. so is Tay-Sachs (to Jews). SIDS is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and i doubt that's contagious as well.
i didn't realize you had Tourette's. is it a severe case? i read a great book by the brilliant psychologist Oliver Sacks where he says the link between Tourette's and OCD is amorphous and Tourette's very well might be a severe case of OCD. it's nothing more than a continuum, with normal people and low-severity OCD sufferers on one side and full blown Tourette's on the other. if it isn't true, it's still a good read. Sacks is a helluva writer.
he also mentions that people with Tourette's tend to be smarter than average and more creative.
1 out of 2 for you! ;)

casey,
it's great that you're no longer self-conscious about it. i've met a few people with Tourette's of varying degrees of severity, and most were self-conscious at least a little. the worse it is, the worse the self-consciousness is, i assume. it's a fascinating neurological disorder. OCD, too. though, like i said, and as you know, they go hand in hand.
and you're right. you're smarter and more creative than us "outcasts". :)
