the house

i haven't posted about it in awhile, and since this is my blog and it's (ostensibly) about my life, i'll go ahead and make a post about my house.

we got a call this past Monday that the tile we originally chose (back in July of last year) was no longer being produced and that we would need to choose a new style. of course it's not in fucking production, we chose the damn thing so long ago. it's probably out of date and would look ridiculous. we wouldn't know, though, because it had been so long that we had literally forgotten what we chose, and how it looked.
we showed up at the showroom to choose our new tile and the guy meeting us brought a sample of the tile we originally chose and one that he thought might work out. it turns out the one we chose was fucking AWESOME, for lack of a better descriptor. of course it was. anyway, we haggled to get a free upgrade to a better, bigger tile and chose one that is nice but not as nice.

it was nice, too, to check out all the other options and colors (countertops, cabinets, house color) of things we chose and forgot about. apparently, we are about 30 days out. it seems we've been perpetually 30 days out.

anyway, we're going back out tomorrow to check the construction. we hope to see all the tile done, the house painted (did i mention it'll be a mustard yellow?) and hopefully some other things. we'll see.

when all is said and done, i'll eventually post pictures here. i don't have a digital camera (i know, i know...) so i'll do my best to borrow one or scan my photos.

Very cool that you get to choose all the stuff in your house! I have never lived in a brand new house. :)

congrats jb, I know you'll be glad when this shit is all over with and you can get settled, get yer books out of storage, get back to "normal" whatever the fuck that is.

and, son, digital cameras are relatively afforadable these days. don't know if you were aware...

thanks guys,

i'll post real soon, but the saga continues. just when you think there's a smidge of light shining upon your retinas SLAM! the fucking door is closed.

i have ZERO faith in people, and it seems i've still put too much into them. you'll see.

oh, and digital cameras are expensive, bro. no, just kidding. i know they're cheap, but i'm like you with the typewriter, i like my analog camera. the slides and prints and all that shit.

i got into it real heavy before we moved into this rathole. i plan on getting back into making photographs again soon.

yep, digital is for snapshots. you must have full control of the lens, exposure time, etc. for proper 'photography.' the girl is getting into it fairly deeply just now, I used to dabble in it as well. I look forward to seeing some of your work sometime.

yeah, i know, just teasing you.
photography is amazing to me. it almost does what poetry does to me.

i've scanned some of my work in, maybe i'll forward the pictures to you.

i also started dabbling in Holga photography, which is pictures taken by this little toy camera from China. takes the most amazing, eery, ghostly photos.

I'd love to check some out. send away, espec the 'holga' photos, if you have some.

just sent some. the holga photos really are fun. fun to take (they use medium format 120 or 220 film) and even more fun to get back from the developers. do a search for the holga and you can find some professional photographers that've used it and have taken some amazing photos.

thanks for sending. they are fantastic, really beautiful. some of the colors on the nature shots look otherworldly, really explosive. the shot of the barren tree in the desert looked like a prehistoric battle between a flying beast and some crawling creature.

the holga photos are impressive as hell. more like how I see the world anyway. great stuff, really enjoyed it. cynthia says NICE JOB! I LOVED EM.

Chris-
thanks, man. it's unreal down here. those colors are all natural (no photoshopping) with the additions of just a few enhancing filters. down in southern Utah you have these deep red rocks and deep blue skies...so gorgeous. enough to make you want to rip your eyes out because you'll never see something as beautiful again.

the holga photos are great, just like you said: it's how we see the world. blurry, greasy, smeared. i thougt you'd enjoy them.

when we move, i'll scan more and send them along...
