i walked down into the basement, to go through a few of our boxes looking for some books that i had misplaced (which i thankfully found elsewhere) and what do i find? well, a great big fucking puddle covering 1/4 of the basement, soaking through one of our area rugs we've got rolled up down there is what. i looks as if it came through the hole drilled into the wall where the water main enters the house. we had a terrific and horrible rainstorm earlier today. one of those odd high-desert ones where membranes of rain thoroughly soak everything for a couple of hours and then the sun comes out as if nothing ever happened.
it appears there's a pretty impressive leak somewhere. just great!
well, in today's mail was a beautiful "pick-me-up": a copy of Christopher Cunningham's newest book and still the night left to go by Bottle of Smoke Press. it's a two-book collection of poems and letters; and it's fucking magnificent. beautiful. i'm sure you already know my feelings about Cunningham's poetry. but, his letters. my god, his letters. and there are 11 in the collection to read to poets and editors and publishers -- including, i am proud to say, one that was written to yours truly.
it's a beautiful fucking collection. a work of art. mine came with a brilliant watercolor of a typewriter and glass of wine, as if something important is looming. and for $10, it's a steal.
pick a copy up right now, okay, fucker?

Look at as a indoor swimming pool.
well, that would be nice only it's nowhere near deep enough for me to swim in. trust me, i tried. i scraped up my knees and elbows something fierce.
it's more of a wading pool.
for feet.
It'll make a fine wading pool for Rufus.
:)

So sorry for the "puddle." Did you expect that just because you finally got into the house you wouldn't have ANY MORE PROBLEMS@!!!!@@ You will overcome this one as magificantly as you did all the others.
Cat was the receipent of that storm as well - they were moving into another rental when the monsoon hit - she said, well I won't tell you what she said, but you can imagine. It is my understanding that it dosen't rain that much in Utah and usually when it does it is just a few minutes and that's all but this time!!!!!! Oh well, mother nature has a way of letting us know that she is in charge.
I also received my copy of My Favorite Poets books and the poems and letters had me crying - very moving - very proud mom, I am!
Can't wait for your book to come in the mail J.B. - I ordered it about a week ago.
Now get to work cleaning up that mess!!
Glenn,
ha! yeah, Rufus would love it. he hasn't seen it yet. we probably shouldn't show it to him or we'd never get him out.
Mom C-
yes, the rains here are weird. the wife and i actually miss the thunderstorms from back East (she's from Florida (born and raised) and i lived for 10 years). it doesn't rain much, and when it does -- like you said, it's fleeting at best -- but occasionally we'll get these crazy storms that just saturate everything. and the thunder here is weird sounding. tinny, almost. flat. and it echoes between the mountains. odd.
also, thank you so much for ordering my book. it means a lot to me. i hope you enjoy it. :)
the puddle does suck, and i suppose it shouldn't be TOO unexpected. i've already contacted the home warranty dude, and he's coming out today (Wednesday) to look at it. we'll see what comes of that. he said in the email reply that there might be a leak.
i could've told him that.
J.B.
Those home warranty dudes are real smart, aren't they - duh! leak? yea maybe since there is water where there shouldn't be - duh!
Go get um Rufus!!
exactly...
i laughed when he wrote that. "there might be a leak."
no shit, sherlock.
what gave it away? was it MY email that said there was water in my basement from a leak in the wall?
brilliant bastards.
Rufus is too nice of a dog to get them. i wish he wasn't (sometimes).
though, it's funny because he is literally the sweetest dog i've ever owned. any worker or whatever that needs to enter the house, he sniffs them once and that's it. but, there are some people who are TERRIFIED of dogs, and they freak out. Rufus just lies in the corner, but they scaredy-cats keep their eye on him, walking around him. it's hilarious.
anyway...we've a plumber out to hook up our water softener today (boy do we need that out here. the water is so hard you have to chew it to swallow it). maybe he can inform me of the fact that there's a leak, too.
J.B.
You are so funny. Have me rolling on the floor. Thanks, I needed that today!
Well, if Rufus won't "get them" then you are going to have to - but, wait, you are much too kind a person from what I found out after reading that marvelous letter you wrote about the house.
Rufus sounds so wonderful - have you ever posted a picture of him?
I have the "scardy-cats" at home. Two loving, beautiful cats, but at the slightest sound - like a sniffle - they high tail it out of the room and go hide under the bed.
Although, the one, Scarlet, stands up to Stella Blue (Chris' dog) and wacks her in the nose when she gets to close - go figure!
Oh, by the way, why the "letters" below the comment box - is it a security measure?
justin-Oh, no! Sorry hear that. Truly sucks. I'm sending good vibes.
:)
Kat-
thanks. while you're at it, you mind sending a shopvac? or a squeegee?! :)
Mom C-
i haven't posted a picture (maybe i will) but i sent Chris a few. maybe he can forward some to you. he's a gorgeous chocolate/red/brown with a white striped down his chest and white toes. unable to be captured by film are the most beautiful, eeriest yellow-brown eyes i've ever seen.
yeah, the letters at the end of these posts are for security reasons, but mainly to prevent comment spam. it's an annoyance, but easier than me having to delete a whole bunch of crap.
glad i could make you guys laugh. it's what i do best. other than annoying my wife...and co-workers...and friends...
and strangers on the street...
justin-
I actually do have a shopvac! :) And I think a pair of those big rubber boots you have to wear when you're vacuuming in the basement. (Did I spell vacuum right? Never sure. Vaccum? Double U, right?) Anyway, good luck. I am truly amazed that you've got a problem like this so soon.
Still sending good vibes. :)
thanks for the mention.
glad you dig it.
if the only cure is a Cubbies WS Championship, then i'm doomed for life.
as for the kickass entertainment center, i actually picked one up recently. it's nice. HD and all that jazz.
Chris,
you're welcome. it's really a great collection.
